Aggies volleyball releases the 2014 schedule

Aggies volleyball releases the 2014 schedule
KTSM
New Mexico State
Thursday, May 29, 2014 - 4:55pm

New Mexico State volleyball head coach Mike Jordan recently released the 2014 Aggie volleyball schedule that includes four teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year.

The Aggies start the season with the annual alumni game on August 23 before opening the regular season on the road at a tournament hosted by Utah, Aug. 29-30. NM State faces Missouri State, Montana State and Utah during the two days of play. The Aggies then return home to host the NM State Tournament, which brings North Dakota State, Radford, Grambling and California to the Pan American Center.

Radford is a 2013 NCAA Tournament participant and Cal is at the top of the PAC-12 standings year-in and year-out.

“We’re looking forward to playing some great competition this fall,” said Jordan. “We’ll get tested immediately and we’ll have to play really well in order to get a lot of wins in the non-conference schedule.”

The 2014 non-conference schedule continues with the 2014 NM State/UTEP Tournament, Sept. 12-13. The Aggies will take on Colorado State, a 2013 top-25 team and NCAA Tournament competitor, on Sept. 12 before facing BYU, another 2013 top-25 team and NCAA Tournament participant, Saturday, Sept. 13.

After one more tournament on the road hosted by New Hampshire, which includes Brown University and Rhode Island, on Sept. 19-20, the Aggies open up the 2014 Western Athletic Conference season at home against Grand Canyon, Sept. 25, before facing Bakersfield Sept. 27. NM State plays its first league road match at Utah Valley, Oct. 2 and then heads to Seattle, Wash., Oct. 4 to face Seattle U.

NM State returns for a three-match home slate taking on Texas-Pan American, Oct. 11, Kansas City, Oct. 16 and Chicago State, Oct. 18. The Aggies then head north to face in-state rival New Mexico in a non-conference match, Oct. 20 before returning to WAC action.

The Aggies are on the road against Bakersfield, Oct. 23 and head over to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon for the second time on Oct. 25. NM State then hosts Seattle U, Oct. 30 and Utah Valley, Nov. 11, before wrapping up the season with three road matches; Texas-Pan American, Nov. 8, Chicago State, Nov. 13, and Kansas City, Nov. 15.

The 2014 WAC Tournament is hosted by Bakersfield and will be played in Bakersfield, Calif., Nov. 21-23. NM State faces UTEP in a single match after the WAC Tournament, Nov. 28 in El Paso, Texas.
