Aggies volleyball continues rivalry with New Mexico

The New Mexico State volleyball team takes on in-state rival New Mexico, Monday at 7 p.m. (MT) in the Pan American Center before opening up the 2013 Western Athletic Conference season at Texas-Pan American at 1 p.m. (MT), Saturday, Sept. 28 in Edinburg, Texas.

Radio Coverage: The Aggie Sports Network is airing 15 matches over the radio waves this season with 13 on KSNM AM 570 and two on KGRT 103.9 FM with Jay Sanderson giving the play-by-play action. The matches airing over the in Las Cruces can also be heard from anywhere around the world on the Internet by logging onto www.NMStateSports.com. Just click on the live events link to access the coverage for a fee.

No matches this week are scheduled to air over the radio waves.

Television Coverage: Six matches are scheduled to be produced for television by the AggieVision Production team this year. For a complete show times go to www.AggieVision.tv or call your local cable provider. The first match that aired on TV (produced by AggieVision) was against Utah, Thursday, Sept. 19.

This week’s match against New Mexico on Sept. 23 is also scheduled to air on TV as a part of the AggieVision Productions at 7 p.m.

About the Aggies: The Aggies head into the week with a 5-7 record after going 2-1 in three matches last week. The Aggies fell to Utah, out of the PAC-12 and defeated Hampton and South Dakota State in consecutive days. NM State is hitting .201 as a team while holding its opponents to a .183 hitting percentage. The Aggies are putting down 12.11 kills per set and have 95 total blocks on the season.

NM State returns five starters as well as a libero from the 2012 WAC Tournament Champion team. Leading the way for the Aggies are 2012 All-WAC selections, seniors Desiree Scott (middle hitter) and Lauren Loerch (outside hitter). NM State also returns senior libero/outside hitter Stephanie Ziegler who was named to the 2012 WAC all-tournament team. The Aggies finished the 2012 season with a 22-11 record while reaching the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history, all under head coach Mike Jordan.

This Weeks Opponents
University of New Mexico: The NM State Aggies are 43-27 all-time against the Lobos (according to the NM State record books). NM State has also won 17 of the last 20 meetings against the Lobos.
The Lobos are sitting at a 9-1 record and are currently riding an eight-game win streak lead by redshirt junior Hannah Johnson who has a Mountain-West best seven double-doubles in the Lobos’ first 10 matches of the season. UNM is led by sixth year head coach Jeff Nelson, who has a record of 121-69 at the helm of the Lobos’ volleyball.
