New Aggie OC, same improved offense
For the third time in four years under DeWayne Walker, the Aggies offense will be coached be a different coordinator. This after Doug Martin left the program after one year with NMSU to be offensive coordinator at Boston College. New Mexico State experience a huge improvement on the offensive side of the ball ranking as the 47th overall offense and 26th in passing in the Nation.
But Aggie fans should not expect to see any decline because the newest play caller runs the same offense that Martin coached. Jerry McManus was a position coach for Martin when he was the head coach at Kent State and says to look forward to much of the same.
"It will be a very similar style offense. Obviously we will tweak things here and there in the running game as well as the passing game. But the basic philosophy, terminology will be very similar to last year," said McManus. Walker said the move was the logical choice.
"I think that's the beauty about our offense. They don't have to learn a lot of new terminology or new schemes," said Walker.
NMSU will get familiar with McManus throughout the month of April before they Spring Game on the 28th at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
