Nash Earns All American Honors

Tuesday, May 17, 2011 - 6:35pm

UTEP women’s basketball signee Jenzel Nash has been named to the 2011 Parade Magazine All-American team. She is believed to be first signee for the Miner women to be so distinguished in the 35 years of the publication’s award. Additionally, UTEP was the only Conference USA institution to place an individual on the 40-person squad.
“This is a great honor for Jenzel,” UTEP head coach Keitha Adams said. “We are thrilled for her. It is also significant for our program to be represented for the first time on such a prestigious list.”
Nash poured in 37.7 points per game while starring for Worthing (Texas) High School on the way to pacing the nation in scoring for the high school girls’ regular season in 2010-11. Aiding that figure was a 64-point outburst against Booker T. Washington. The 5-7 guard also registered game averages of 8.7 rebounds, 5.4 steals and 4.4 assists, and was voted as VYPE Magazine’s Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.
The Houston native’s efforts helped the squad compile a record of 20-7, which marked the fourth straight 20+ victory season during Nash’s prep career. WHS, under the direction of head coach Leslie Harris, claimed the district championship with a mark of 10-1.
Previously Nash stormed onto the scene as a freshman in 2007-08, accounting for 16.7 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.1 spg and 1.2 apg to help her squad go 21-12. She jumped up to 24.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.6 spg and 2.3 apg as a sophomore before piling up 27.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 5.2 apg and 4.5 spg as a junior.
