Sports
Monday, February 11, 2013 - 3:07pm

The #20 UTEP rifle team took another step in the right direction by registering an aggregate score of 4483 (2203 smallbore & 2280 air rifle) in a match at No. 7 Air Force. The Falcons concluded the competition with a total of 4644.

UTEP had the tone set for the match from senior leader Hannah Muegge.

Muegge fired a career-best 576 in the smallbore. That figure also equals the best effort by any Miner in the discipline this year. She registered 576 in the air rifle-her third-highest sum in the event as a senior- to complete her day with an aggregate score of 1154. The 1154 is just one shy of her season best and rates as her fifth-highest score of her illustrious career with the Orange and Blue.

Close in back of her was Korina Rodriguez. She proved that she has found her rhythm by finishing with an aggregate of 1151 for the second straight meet. It equals her campaign best and ties as her third-highest sum overall during her career. She reached that figured on the strength of her second-biggest scores on the year for both smallbore (569) and the air rifle (582).

Jennifer Armendariz eclipsed 570 in the smallbore for the fifth time this year by registering a score of 571. She also had a solid effort in the air rifle, with her 577 trailing only Rodridguez in the event for the day (582). Overall she concluded the competition at 1148.

Areli Oros compiled a score of 543 in the air rifle, her second-top total in the discipline for the 2012-13 campaign. She finished at 487 in the smallbore to wrap up the event with an aggregate of 1030.
