Miners Softball Hosting Marist in Double Header

The UTEP softball team will return to action this week when they host Marist College in a four-game series this Friday and Saturday at the Helen of Troy Complex.
The teams will face each other first on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Miners head into the weekend 12-12 for the season and 1-2 in Conference USA competition. UTEP will take this week off from league competition and will face Nebraska in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, March 22, before resuming C-USA play against Memphis at home next weekend.
Marist, 10-9, is coming off Wednesday’s sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore where the Red Foxes ran away with 8-4 and 12-4 wins in Princess Anne, Maryland.
Three juniors had a huge day for the Red Foxes, including first baseman Nicole DiVirgilio who had five hits and six RBIs, second baseman Megan Lamoureux with five hits, seven runs scored and three RBIs, and centerfielder Ashley Corriss finished the day with four hits, six runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

UTEP returns home after opening conference play against UCF in Orlando, Fla., last week where they lost the series 1-2.
Freshman pitcher Megan Atchison went 1-1 against the Knights. Senior Courtney Auger took the Miners first loss of the weekend falling to UCF 2-1 in the opening game of the series on Saturday afternoon. Atchison was the winning pitcher on the circle in the Miners’ 3-2 win over the Knights in Saturday’s nightcap and took the 6-0 loss on Sunday.
As a team the Miners lead Conference USA in slugging percentage (.419), runs scored (127), RBIs (109), doubles (35) and total bases (262) in all games.
Individually, Chelsea Troupe is the league’s leader in slugging percentage (.809), RBIs (20), home runs (8) and total bases (55). Sophomore Kayleigh Walts is tops in doubles with six hit this year.
UTEP also ranks second as a team in home runs (17) and stolen bases (35); third in batting average (.269), on base percentage (.351), at bats (625), walks (73), steal attempts (37) and is tied for third in triples (4); fourth in hits (168) and sac flies (5).
Troupe’s .382 hitting average is second amongst all C-USA players as well as her on base percentage, .488 and she ranks third in walks with 15. She tied for fourth along with senior teammate Becky Smith and five other in doubles (5); tied for fifth in hits (26) and tied for sixth in stolen bases (7). Freshman Samantha Alvillar is third in stolen bases with nine. She is perfect in steal attempts ranking her sixth (tied) amongst all league players.
Walts is tied for third in RBIs (19). Senior Kia Moore is tied for second in RBIs (22) and third in triples (2); sixth in total bases (38), eighth in on base percentage (.412) and hits (24) and 10th in batting average (.324).
