El Paso, Texas - The UTEP softball team will close out its 2013 campaign against Marshall in a three-game series starting with a Saturday doubleheader at Dot Hicks Softball Field.

The Miners (12-33, 1-19 C-USA) and Thundering Herd (30-19, 11-9 C-USA) will square off at 11 a.m. MT while game two is slated for a 1 p.m. MT start.

UTEP was swept by No. 25 Tulsa last weekend (April 27-28) and Marshall beat Morehead State, 5-1, on Wednesday, but lost a pair of games to UAB in its last conference series (April 27-28).

Junior Erika Arcuri has continued her consistent hitting as the native of Tampa, Fla. is ranked in the top 10 in Conference USA with a .346 average. The centerfielder is also error-free in conference play. Junior Alanna Leasau has made a positive impact in her first season. The native of Livermore, Calif. is tied fifth in C-USA in RBI (39) and sixth in home runs (eight). Leasau made a splash when she set a school record with eight RBI on two grand slams in a win over Mississippi Valley State on March 15.

In the circle, freshman Danielle Pearson leads the Miners in innings pitched (148.2), wins (six), strikeouts (70), ERA (3.86), and complete games (eight). Junior Colleen Hohman has notched four wins this season.

Seniors Charissa Ballesteros, Ashley Collazo, Kayla Oranger, Cynthia Villastrigo, and Kayleigh Walts are playing in the Orange and Blue for the last time this weekend.

Ballesteros and Villastrigo have been hampered by injuries this season. Ballesteros has contributed with four RBI this season, while Villastrigo has thrown a total of 15 innings this season. Collazo has been solid at the plate with two home runs and 13 RBI and leads the team in triples. Oranger is hitting .307 with a team-leading nine stolen bases and Walts is one of the conference leaders in runners caught stealing and picking runner off.

Andi Williamson, one of the top pitchers in the nation, leads the Thundering Herd. Williamson’s 311 Ks is ranked second in the nation, while her 27 victories is ranked in the top five. The senior has an ERA of 2.23 in 254 innings.

The series finale will be played on Sunday with a 9 a.m. MT start.
