Memphis Wins Again
El Paso, TX — The El Paso Chihuahuas came within one run of the Memphis Redbirds on two different occasions Monday but fell short in the end, 7-4. The Redbirds have taken the first three games of the four game series and have won nine consecutive games to stay in first place, one game ahead of Nashville in the American Conference Southern Division.
San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner made his second Triple-A injury rehab start Monday and allowed three runs on four hits in five innings of work. Cashner left after 63 pitches, 45 of which were strikes. El Paso’s Cody Decker hit a two-run triple off the left field wall in the sixth inning to make the score 3-2 Memphis. After Memphis added a run in the top of the seventh, Cameron Maybin’s two-out RBI double got El Paso within one again, but a three-run Redbirds ninth kept Memphis ahead to stay.
Chris Rearick pitched a scoreless eighth inning, continuing an impressive stretch of allowing just one earned run in his last 15 appearances. Two former members of the Cardinals organization, Alex Castellanos and Tyler Greene, collected three hits each for the Chihuahuas in the loss.
