Manning expected to be released by Colts

UPDATED: Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 5:19pm

The announcement every NFL fan has been waiting to hear for months now will finally come tomorrow (Wednesday).

Sources including ESPN are reporting that Manning will no longer be wearing a blue horseshoe on the side of his helmet. NBC affiliate WTHR in Indianapolis is reporting that the Colts will hold a press conference tomorrow.

The press conference will take place on March 7th, just hours before Manning is due a 28 million dollar bonus on his contract on March 8th. Manning has been with the Indianapolis Colts for fourteen years, and leads in almost all passing statistics in the franchise's history. He also ranks third all-time in the NFL in completions and yards. Manning spent the entire 2011 season sidelined with complications of a neck injury.

The Colts were known as perennial underachievers until Manning arrived in Indianapolis, and have since won a Super Bowl and seven of the last ten AFC South Championships.

Manning is widely known as the face of the Colts' franchise and adorns the outside of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, commonly referred to as the 'House That Peyton Built'.

The Colts have the first pick in this year's NFL Draft, where experts expect the Colts will take quarterback Andrew Luck from Stanford.
