Friday, July 30:  Parkland incoming Freshman Anthony Dudley won the Discus national championship at the Junior Olympics in Sacramento, California with a throw of 191-04.  Dudley is the younger brother of former Parkland 4A State Champion Matt Dudley, who now competes at the University of Houston.  14-year old Keandre Bates won the national championship in the triple jump, clearing 42 feet, 2 inches.  Bates will be a Freshman at Burges High School this fall.  Before the championships, Keandre Bates told Newschannel 9 what he wanted to accomplish at the Junior Olympics with his team, Team Bliss.  "The triple jump... I am trying to jump a 43, or 44, just to break the record and to set a personal record." Team Bliss Head Coach Crispen Hanson added, "When you actually see him jumping, you know he can attain it. That's the great thing, and the good thing about it is that coaches from other teams have worked with him."
