Lobos Top Aggies on the Pitch, 4-0

In the non-conference finale, the New Mexico State soccer team suffered its first loss inside Aggie Memorial Stadium this season, as the Aggies fell to New Mexico, 4-0.

NM State finished non-conference play with a 7-4-1 record, while the Lobos moved to 6-4-2.

"It's not how we wanted to end the non-conference portion of the season," head coach Blair Quinn. "The first half was all the difference. We weren't very good in the first half. We looked very flat.

"We came out really slow, and we usually don't play like that. The second half was a lot better, but it was too late. We played faster in the second half, and we pressed more."

New Mexico scored first with a goal in the 26th minute of action, when senior midfielder Jael Fanning gave the Lobos a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, an Aggie miscue led to a New Mexico goal.

In the second half, the Lobos converted on a free kick for a goal in the 66th minute and then added a score at the 79-minute mark.

Senior forward Cassandra Branch led the Aggies with two shots, while sophomore goalkeeper Erin Wosick had five saves for the defense.

The Aggies open WAC play at Louisiana Tech, Sunday, Oct. 2 at noon in Ruston, La.
