Las Cruces Native Dixon Joins Aggie Swimming and Diving

New Mexico State swimming and diving head coach Rick Pratt has added Cassandra Dixon to his staff. The Las Cruces native returns as an assistant coach.

"I am very excited for Cassie to join our staff," Pratt said. "She has tremendous energy and confidence and is going to make an amazing college coach. Her personality will help us a lot in recruiting, and her passion for swimming and being a mentor to our student-athletes was very evident in the hiring process. Even though coach Dixon moved away to swim in college, she has always been an Aggie at heart, and she loves Las Cruces. When you add that element on top of all of her great qualities, she is the ideal person to help take our program to the next level."

Dixon is moving back to the southwest from Princeton, N.J., where she was a swim coach with the Princeton Fitness and Wellness Center since March 2011. She also works as a freelance Illustrator.

"I am grateful that Rick chose me for this position, and I am looking forward to working with the team," Dixon said. "I am ecstatic to be returning to the Land of Enchantment, my hometown and home pool to join the Aggies."

After swimming for the Las Cruces Aquatic Team, Dixon earned a scholarship to swim at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. She was a 16-time NAIA All-American, and she still holds the school records in the 50 free and 100 free. Dixon is a former NAIA National Record Holder in the 50 free and was a national champion in 2007. She earned a bachelor's degree in illustration in 2009.

Dixon joins an Aggie squad that is in the midst of preseason practice. NM State prepares for the upcoming season with the annual Crimson and White meet, Oct. 3, before it hosts Air Force, Oct. 13 in the season opener.
