Las Cruces boys basketball ready for State

Sports

POSTED: Tuesday, March 12, 2013 - 6:41pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, March 12, 2013 - 7:54pm

The Las Cruces High School boys basketball team is well prepared for the 5A State Tournament in Albuquerque.  Last season, with 7 juniors on the team, the #1 Bulldawgs lost in the State Quarterfinals.

Head Coach William Benjamin said, "They're seniors now, they're more mature. They've been through war so to speak last year when they were juniors. I think now that they're seniors they know exactly what it is they're getting into, so they can perform better, and execute better in tight games."  Senior guard Joseph Garza added, "I think we have gotten a lot better, we have found the roles on the team, everyone found their role, and now we're just playing at a high level."

This season, the 'Dawgs are 21-7, and as the #6 seed, will face #3 seed La Cueva at 4:45pm Wednesday at the Pit in Albuqerque on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
