Las Cruces Boxer Chosen to Represent USA in Armenia

Edmundo Guzman, age 17, of Las Cruces has been selected by USA Boxing to be a member of the U.S. Youth World Championship Team to compete in Yerevan, Armenia this fall. The worldwide tournament will be held November 25th thru December 8, 2012. The tournament will showcase the world's next generation of upcoming boxers, between the ages of 17 and 18-years old. Fighters selected must of have met certain performance-based criteria, such as fininshing 1st or 2nd place in the 2012 USA Boxing National Championships, 2012 National PAL Tournament, or the 2012 National Golden Gloves. Guzman qualified by being a 2nd place, Silver Medalist, at the 2012 USA Boxing National Championships. To prepare for this worldwide competition, USA Boxing will send Guzman to a training camp to be held November 5th thru December 8, 2012 at the Puerto Rico Olympic training grounds.

Guzman, a junior at Onate High School, is a boxer with the Las Cruces Police Athletic League (PAL) Boxing Club. Las Cruces PAL Boxing is a program that takes at risk youth off the streets and teaches them discipline through boxing.
