Kiss to Swim in Canadian Trials

Kiss to Swim in Canadian Trials
Sports
Friday, March 23, 2012 - 5:42pm

New Mexico State sophomore swimmer Tricia Kiss is preparing to compete in the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials in Montreal, Quebec, Tuesday, March 27 through Sunday, April 1.

Kiss, a Langley, British Columbia native, is swimming in the 400 individual medley and 100 backstroke, Wednesday, March 28. She also competes in the 200 IM, Saturday, March 30 and concludes the trials with the 200 back, Sunday, April 1.

"Tricia has had a strong career at NM State so far," head coach Rick Pratt said. "Last year, she was WAC Freshman of the Year and broke three individual school records. She then had some injuries in the spring, which made last summer a little rocky. The pressures to better her first year performances in the end really got to her at this year's conference meet, however, she finished with a great 200 back on the last day and smashed her own school record by over a second.

"When she didn't think too much and just went for it, she swam great and that was a strong lesson to learn this year," he said. "If she can swim like that in Montreal, it will be a great experience for her. She's had a strong month of preparation leading up to the Canadian trials, and it will be fun for her to get up there and race the best swimmers in Canada."

Currently, Kiss holds two Aggie program records. She has the school record in the 200 back (1:58.81) and 400 IM (4:16.62).
