The New York Knicks may have missed out on Steve Nash when he signed with the Lakers today, but they didn't have to wait long to sign another Hall of Fame point guard. Despite reports that Jason Kidd was close to re-signing with the Dallas Mavericks, the 18-year vet is said to be taking his talents to Manhattan instead. Kidd was reportedly close to signing a three-year, nine million dollar deal with Dallas when he sources say he informed Dallas he was going to the Knicks instead. The 39-year old will add championship experience and leadership to a Knicks team still in need of a true leader, with Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire struggling to carry the group. Also said to be a deciding factor for Kidd was the ability to mentor fan favorite Jeremy Lin, who took New York by storm last season before getting injured.

This will be the fourth team for which Kidd has played, including two stints in Dallas where he won a ring in 2008, and seven years across the river with the then-New Jersey Nets.

The deal cannot become official until at least July 11th, the first day new NBA contracts can be signed.
