Keitha Adams has a last minute addition to her recruiting class.

Pasadena City College standout guard Kim Smith, a starter on the 2009 state championship squad, has signed a national letter of intent and will join the UTEP women’s basketball team for the 2010-11 season head coach Keitha Adams announced on Monday. She will have two years of eligibility.

“Kim Smith is a scoring guard who played for a very successful winning team,” Adams said. “She can shoot the three, score off the bounce and go to the basket. We are excited about her joining the team.”

A two-time All-South Coast Conference honoree, Smith finished her two-year career with the Lancers with 997 points to rate fourth all time in program history. PCC posted an overall record of 58-9 during the time frame, and it secured back-to-back Southern California bracket titles.

The 5-8 guard aided the school make history in 2008-09 when the squad claimed PCC’s initial state team championship in women’s sports. The Lancers finished with a stellar mark of 33-4.

She matched a PCC playoff record by pouring in 35 points in the 2009 semifinals against Ventura, with her 23 free throws establishing a CCCAA state championship tournament record. Smith holds the college’s free throw records for makes and attempts, both for season and career.

Overall, Smith tallied 13.3 points per game, shooting 44 percent from the floor, while also registering 2.9 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game and 1.1 steals per game as a freshman.

Smith paced the Lancers in assists (3.1 apg) and scoring (17.4 ppg) as a sophomore. She grabbed first-team all-league accolades, after earning a spot on the second team in 2008-09. The team rolled to a 25-5 mark and earned a spot in the CCCAA championship tournament quarterfinals.
