Jones brothers commit to UTEP Football

Sports
Thursday, January 17, 2013 - 7:26pm

The Jones brothers, Aaron and Alvin Jones, have verbally committed to UTEP to play football next fall, despite being in the middle of their high school basketball season.  National Signing day is Wednesday, February 6.

Aaron and Alvin excelled on the gridiron this fall, Aaron as an all-city running back and Alvin as a quarterback, and both played defense.  UTEP linebackers coach, and former Montwood Ram Robert Rodriguez, recruited the pair to play together as Miners.

"UTEP gave us a great opportunity to play together, and coach Kugler is a great person, so is coach Rodriguez, and the whole staff, and we feel like we can make an impact there," said Aaron.  Alvin Jones added, "At first we weren't sure until coach Kugler came and and coach Rodriguez, they offered me, so why leave home when you can play with the fans that you have, including your brother and your family that will be here. "  Aaron Jones added one more tid bit.  "We wanted to stay together, we knew that's what we wanted to do, and UTEP gave us that opportunity."

in 2012, Aaron had 74 tackles and an interception, while Alvin had 83 tackles and 11 tackles for loss.
