Texas A&M Quarterback Johnny Manziel has his first televised news conference today. The Freshman quarterback set an SEC single-season record for total offense, that is, combined passing and rushing yardage.
That's more than Cam Newton or Tim Tebow.
The eye-popping state have made his a Heisman Trophy finalist.
At Texas A&M today, the player called "johnny football" spoke about the Heisman... and the hype.
"It's so surreal for me to be even mentioned in the same category and the same sentence as the Heisman Trophy. It's a dream come true. It would be a dream come true for me to even be able to go to New York and sit down. Now that all this (Heisman) talk is swirling around, it (winning) is definitely something I guess you have to prepare for, like I said, it would be a dream come true to even go to the Heisman Ceremony much less say a speech. I don't really see myself as the 'Johnny Football' craze has kinda swept Agglie-land and swept around the nation a little bit. I see myself as Johnny Manziel, a guy from Kerrville, Texas, who just tries to be a laid-back guy who likes to hang out with my friends and be a normal college student just like anybody else."
The Texas A&M football team has a policy prohibiting Freshmen from talking to the media, but now their regular season is over. Manziel has passed for 3,419 yards with 24 touchdowns, and has rushed for 1,181 yards with 19 touchdowns. The Redshirt Freshman turns 20 on December 6th.
