Derek Jeter added another milestone to his hall of fame career, becoming the first New York Yankee to reach the 3,000 hit plateau. Jeter is the forth youngest player at 37 years and 13 days to reach the 3,000 hit mark. The Yankees all-time hits leader became the 28th member of the 3,000 hit club, and just the second player in Major League history to hit a home run for their 3,000 hit joining Wade Boggs.

Jeter reached 3,000 in style crushing a 3-2 third-inning curveball off Rays starter David Price. The Yankee captain capped his day going 5-for-5 and getting the game-winning single in the eighth in the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. After the home run Jeter was first greeted by best friend Jorge Posada and the rest of the Yankees poured out of the dugout and the right field bullpen. They all circled Jeter, until finally the crowd of 48,103 broke through chanting Jeter's name.

Jeter is the first to reach 3,000 in the uniform of any New York team (Mets, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants). In the process Jeter passed Roberto Clemente for 27th all-time, and cemented his legacy as one of the greatest to ever put on the Yankee pin stripes.
