Irvin Discusses Gay Marriage

Sports

POSTED: Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 3:54pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 6:42pm

Michael Irvin's brother is gay and he says that could be the reason for his numerous affairs.

The former Dallas receiver is full of revelations in the August issue of "OUT" magazine. Irvin says he discovered his brother Vaughn dressing as a woman and had a difficult time accepting his homosexuality. He wonders if his own womanizing was due to his brother being gay and says it was with his father's help he accepted Vaughn through a tolerant form of Christianity.

Irvin also discusses gay marriage and questions how the African American community can harbor prejudice.

"Maybe some of the issues I've had with so many women - just bringing women around so everybody can see - maybe that's residual of the fear I had that, if my brother is wearing ladies' clothes, am I going to be doing that? Is it genetic?" Irvin said. "I'm certainly not making excuses for my bad decisions. But I had to dive inside of me to find out why I was making these decisions, and that came up."

Irvin is the cover story of the August issue of "OUT" magazine.
