In Overtime, UTEP Outlasts Stony Brook, 31-24
New UTEP Quarterback Nick Lamaison made an outstanding first impression in the Sun Bowl, hitting Donovan Kemp with a 25-yard strike on the first play of overtime, in a 31-24 victory over Stony Brook.
Lamaison was 24-38 for 365 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions. Perhaps that was from the jitters, this was his first start in Division One. UTEP turned the ball over four times, and overcame a 14-point deficit, 24-10, by scoring four touchdowns after trailing 10-3 at halftime.
Kemp had 4 receptions for 114 yards, while the UTEP running game stalled. Joe Banyard rushed 12 times for 17 yards, while as a team, UTEP had only 36 rushing yards.
UTEP (1-0) will travel to SMU next Saturday.
