Huskies Prepare for 7-on-7 State Championships

Sports

POSTED: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 - 6:07pm

UPDATED: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 - 6:34pm

Wednesday, June 30:  The Chapin 7-on-7 football team are not the scared "Huskies" they were last year.  Gone are the wide-eyed times of last year's tournament, Chapin's first at the 7-on-7 State Championships.  This year, Chapin is much more confident.  Head Coach Rene Hernandez, "7-on-7 for us has become a full out season. We did it, fortunately we qualified for State last year, and we thought it was such a great experience, we wanted to see if we could get two more teams out of El Paso, and I think it is going to work in our benefit."  Senior Defensive Back Joseph DeAntona added, "Well, it's almost like a preseason for us, we don't have lineman out here, mainly just passing, so we kind of have a little of an advantage, so just coming out here, and when you are with people this much, you got to be close."

Chapin has advanced to the State Championships along with Coronado, Montwood and Franklin.  The State Championships will take place July 8-10 in College Station, Texas, on the campus of Texas A&M.
