The Chapin Huskies wrestling team took five wrestlers to the state meet, and set records this past weekend in Garland, Texas. For the first time in school history, Chapin can celebrate a State Champion in wrestling. Andy O'Brien won the 4A state championship at 132 pounds. Chapin didn't stop there, in fact, the Huskies had two finalists for the first time in school history. Abigail Ramirez took the girls 4A Silver medal at 102 pounds. Dalton Styer took state honors with a sixth place finish at 126 pounds, while AJ Quintana and Andrea Torres wrestled well.

As for O'Brien, it's a dream come true. "It was a perfect performance... Basically what he did was control all the takedowns, he made sure he scored first. When he rode, he rode him, got him tired, he was like a leach on him," said his coach, Angel Nevarez. Andy O'Brien added, "It means a lot, I'm real honored to be the first state champion at Chapin High School, I took it one match at a time and it's so unreal, it's unbelievable, and it hasn't really hit me yet that I am a state champion."
