Preseason Fine 9 Football Teams: #8 Horizon

High School Football

POSTED: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - 4:55pm

UPDATED: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - 6:37pm

The Horizon High School football team has had success never seen in the far east El Paso school.  Two straight playoff appearances have heightened expectations, and now Horizon is aiming for more in 2012.  In a tougher District 2-4A that has added Hanks and Eastlake, the Scorpions are thinking playoffs with 15 returning starters.  Led by Senior QB Jesus Flores, the Scorpions return tons of speed on offense and defense, and that has Horizon excited.

"To tell you the truth, we have had a really good week of practice. The kids have been coming out, and we have had close to 100% attendance and they are working hard," said coach David Telas.  Senior Quarterback Jesus Flores added of practice, "We are working really hard for this and I think we're going to earn it, and the team is working really hard, and practices have been going really well."  Senior Linebacker Jon Bennett loves the team speed.  "Most of the team is actually our track stars, so I believe we have the fastest team in the city... Speed kills."

7:00pm Friday, August 31st, Horizon opens the regular season at Austin.
