Preseason Fine 9 Football Teams: #6 Burges

High School Football

POSTED: Friday, August 24, 2012 - 5:54pm

UPDATED: Friday, August 24, 2012 - 6:44pm

The Burges Mustangs surprised all of El Paso last season, finishing with a 9-3 record and winning the Bi-District title over Horizon.  This season, Burges brings back a state champion, Running Back Aaron Jones who helped win the 4 X 400M relay at the State Championships in Austin.  Marcus Graham returns for his third season with arguably the fastest team he has ever had, and the most experienced.

"I tell the kids the same thing every day, we are not going to sneak up on anybody this year, just keep preparing, week in and week out, and every week is a challenge, this is a new group of kids," said Graham.  Senior RB Aaron Jones added, "We have just got to keep working hard and do what we did last year, but do it two times better."  Senior DE Elijah Natividad also said of District 1-4A.  "We have great teams in our district, it's going to be a hard match no matter what, but I mean we are not going to lay down for anyone, we are ready."

7:00pm Thursday, August 30, Burges opens the regular season at home against Clint.
