Mayfield (11-1) will face Las Cruces (11-1) for the 5A New Mexico State football championship on Saturday, December 7 at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces.  Mayfield defeated district and in-city rival 28-20 for the district championship, but the Bulldawgs are favored to win the championship.  Las Cruces won the 2012 State Championship, while Mayfield rebounded from a 7-5 season a year ago.

Mayfield head coach Michael Bradley, "When you have an off year like last year, it was not the greatest year, but when you have great kids, we had a hard start, and we had a great finish, and the finish is the most important thing. I am very proud of these guys for what they have accomplished because we have grown every single week, we have gotten better offensively, defensively and and attitude wise."

Las Cruces is averaging 62 points per game in the playoffs.  Bulldawgs head coach Jim Miller, "We've been playing real well in these last two games in the playoffs. Mayfield stimied us in that District Championship game. We didn't get much rhythem offensively. We know we can't let that happen again."  Bulldawgs senior TE/LB Sam Denmark added, "We've got to spread it out. Everybody is huge. We are not a one man team as you could see thought the whole year. Everybody's got to work, we've got to do what we do."

Mayfield is looking for their 9th state champinoship.  The Trojans have won state championships in 1971, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010.

Las Cruces is looking for their 8th state championship.  The Bulldawgs have won state championships in 1959, 1975, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2008 and 2012.
