East All-Stars hit the practice field
El Paso, TX — Senior football players from the 34 El Paso County high schools take part in an exciting football combine and football game highlighted with a spectacular pre-game and dazzling halftime festivities which include outstanding football players, cheerleaders, band members, dance/drill teams, ROTC cadets, and choir members. The Senior All Star Football Classic is supported by a dedicated all volunteer committee, coaching staff, and generous sponsors. All proceeds from the game go directly back to the seniors in the form of scholarships. El Paso graduating seniors have been awarded 565 scholarships totaling $438,500.00.

ABOUT THE COMBINE: Limited to high school seniors, all participants must have a recorded SAT or ACT score prior to the combine and meet one of the three criteria: Minimum SAT of 800 or ACT of 16, GPA of 2.5 or higher, or in the top one half of their graduating class. Officials from Division II, Division III and NAIA universities from Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, California, and Arkansas will be represented. Seniors will be measured in the 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical leap measurement, and 30 yard shuttle. A total of 51 El Paso seniors have received approximately $5 million in scholarships from Division II, III, and NAIA colleges in the past two years. This year, over 30 college coaches representing over 25 colleges will offer scholarships to the Greater El Paso area. Spectators invited to attend.

ABOUT THE GAME: PRE GAME FESTIVITIES: Senior JROTC Cadets present a 18’ by 50’ American flag. All Star Choir along with Eastlake HS choir sing National Anthem. Player introductions will begin at approximately 12:50 pm.
PROMOTION: Sponsored by Hit 104.3 FM, El Paso’s largest “tug-of-war” with the East students and parents versus the West students and parents.

PARKING/TAILGATING: South Tunnel (P-5), Press Box (P-7) and Sun Bowl Dr. parking across from UTEP Bookstore (S-4) are by permit only. Handicap parking in Press Box lot. No restrictions on tailgating. Parking is free in the south parking garage off Sun Bowl Drive. With construction on-going around the UTEP campus, the public should check with TXDOT regarding any street closures.
ABOUT THE COACHES:
WEST HEAD COACH: Don Brooks – retired in 2011, coached for 34 years at Coronado High School, won total of 229 games (one of the most winning coaches in Texas), inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame, Top of Texas Hall of Fame, and Coronado Golden T-Birds Hall of Fame. This is his first year as head coach in the All Star game.
EAST HEAD COACH: Phil Hatch – current athletic administrator, former high school principal, former coach at Jefferson and Bowie High School, fullback for UTEP Miners. Twentieth year as head coach, 5 years as West coach, 15 years as East coach.
ABOUT THE TEAMS: ALL STAR TEAM: Ninety two football players from across El Paso county have been selected by the All Star selection committee to participate in the game. Each team holds practices for two weeks prior to the game and receives a commemorative All Star jersey.
JUNIOR ALL STAR MENTOR DAY: The All Star football players will participate in a Junior All Star Mentor Day on Saturday, December 7 at the Sun Bowl. Students in 5th and 6th grade from across the county will be paired with a player. The junior will have a photo taken with their “all star” then participate in team building workshop, have lunch, and view a movie at the UTEP Union Cinema. The event will begin at 9:00 am.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS: MVP trophies awarded to an outstanding offensive and defensive player selected from the West team AND East Team immediately following the game. One player from each team will be awarded the “Hut Brown Leadership Award” and “Edd Fifer Courage Award.” Fans will be invited on to the field for autographs following the MVP announcement.
Under the direction of Laura’s Productions and T. Andre Feagin, UTEP’s Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands, the All Star marching band, flags, dance teams and cheerleaders will perform a dazzling half time festivity. Also participating in the halftime performance this year are bands from: Jefferson-Silva, Eastlake, Eastwood, Canutillo, Clint, and San Elizario High Schools
