Coronado Set To Play In State 7-On-7 Passing Tournament

Sports

UPDATED: Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 7:10pm

The Coronado T-Birds are headed to College Station, Texas to participate in the state 7-on-7 passing tournament. Coronado won the Hanks qualifier earlier this summer and now face the top 64 passing teams the state of Texas has to offer.

The Thunderbirds are taking a young team to to College Station that is excited to play against some of the best high school football players in Texas. But Coronado coach Don Brooks takes a realistic view of the state 7-on-7 tournament.

"We're anxious to go. The kids participated well at the Hanks tournament and qualified and we're going to give them that opportunity. El Paso teams generally don't do too well down there but hopefully we can have a breakthrough or something."

The T-Birds are in pool A of the tournament which includes Friendswood, Johnson (S. A.), and Mesquite high school. The state tournament starts July 14th and goes through July 16th, and games will be played on the campus of Texas A&M.
