Bears hope the 'cubs' can mature for the 2014 season

The pride of the Segundo Barrio is back over recent football seasons at Baty-Simmang Stadium. The Bowie Bears hope to top last season's 9-3 record and Bi-District title, but the secret is out and the Osos won't be sneaking up on anyone. The Bears lost 33 seniors from last season's squad. The good news is, Robert Padilla's Wing-T offense is working and the young Bears are ready.

Robert Padilla, "I think what the kids have already been talking about which is the same work ethic and dedication that last years senior group had. That was a big group for us but the main thing was that the worked extremely hard, they had a lot of dedication, and as long as our seniors this year can try to match that, I think we will be alright."

The Bowie defense will have to limit points while the offense gets some experience. That means leaning on Irving Morales who recorded 153 tackles at defensive end last season. Bowie opens the season Friday, August 29 versus Fabens at Baty-Simmang Stadium.

Tune in for all the highlights every Friday night at 10:15pm for Applebee's NC9 Overtime, with expert analysis on all the big high school football games with the region's most experienced sports team!
