Aztecs Aim for First Win Over Montwood

High School Football

POSTED: Wednesday, October 3, 2012 - 10:45pm

UPDATED: Thursday, October 4, 2012 - 11:32pm

Despite being one of the most heated rivalries in the city, El Dorado has never beaten Montwood in football. That could change Thursday in a monster warm-up to week 5 of the high school football season.

"They are one of the top dogs every year and it's always a battle out there," said Aztecs Head Coach Jim Althoff. "We're fighting like heck to get up on top this year."

"A rivalry game. A great team [El Dorado], very well coached. A lot of speed and some great athletes down there. It's going to be a big one on Thursday," said Rams Head Coach Chuck Veliz.

Both schools enter the game 3-1 and both figure to be playoff contenders. The winner could not only answer who the best team is in East El Paso, but the best in the City. Kickoff is set for 7pm at the Student Activities Complex.
