Austin High School Ready for Football Season

High School Football

POSTED: Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 5:46pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - 10:40pm

Tuesday, August 3:  The Austin High School Football team had arguably the best 2 seasons in the city of El Paso's history.  Just two years ago, the Panthers were finishing off their second straight undefeated regular season.  20-0 in the regular season just doesn't happen around these parts, and after a 5-6 season last year, including a 43-14 loss in the 4A Bi-District playoffs at Parkland, the Panthers are focused on the 2010 season.   Head Coach Ruben Batista told Newschannel 9, "We're not going to change anything, we are basically going to do what we have been doing since I have been here. We are going to continue doing what we are doing, and hopefully we'll be able to run the ball and throw the ball a little bit, and work really hard at the little things that we do."  In terms of the team, the big "uglies" in the middle will be a force to be reckoned with.  "We have a few gaps to fill, but we have some kids that have a little more experience this year coming back, primarily the ones we are really excited about are the whoel offensive line roughly coming back."  Austin opens up the season on Friday, August 27 at Ysleta.
