Applebee's NC9 Overtime: Chacon leads Coronado past rival Franklin

KTSM
High School Football
Thursday, October 3, 2013 - 11:44pm

Coronado followed their Senior running back Bobby Chacon all the way to a 37-21 victory over 1-5A rival Franklin Thursday in the Sun Bowl. Chacon scored three first half touchdowns and reached over 100 yards rushing for the 6th straight time while the T-Birds held the Cougars to their lowest score of the season. The win is the first for Coronado over Franklin since 2009. The Thunderbirds have equalled their win total from last season and sit at 5-1, 2-0 in District while Franklin falls to 3-3, 2-1.

In other Thursday action, Bel Air scored a field goal to take a 3-0 lead over Americas but the Trailblazers (3-2, 1-1) would not give up another point en route to a 63-3 win for their first District win. Bel Air falls to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in District 1-5A.

Centennial was led by dual-threat quarterback Quevin Redding as the Hawks beat 2A Hatch Valley 49-13 at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces.
