Higgins hopes for Baylor National Championship
The Baylor women's basketball team is two wins shy of a perfect 40-0 record. No men's or women's team has ever accomplished that feat, now the #1 ranked team in the nation, the Bears are hoping to accomplish it in Denver, site of the women's NCAA Final Four. Baylor will take on Stanford, 6:30pm Sunday for a chance to play in the National Championship game.
A local El Pasoan is eagerly anticipating Sunday's game. Kristina Higgins is undoubtedly the best player in the city this year, and helped lead Chapin to a 32-1 record and a berth in the 4A Regional Quarterfinals. Higgins averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game. Higgins committed to Baylor last year, and kept to that committment.
"I am excited, they might win, well, I think they are going to win, so it makes me excited going to a national program like that. It makes me nervous, I hope I go in ready to be with a program like that, because most of those girls are returning, so seeing them on tv and that's going to be me someday." Higgins High School coach, Marlee Webb, said it is exciting to watch Baylor, and see where Higgins could be this time next year. "It's a great time in the Baylor program and it's a great time in El Paso to have a representative there, and hopefully she will make the best of it."
