Han loses by TKO to Tapia in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV — El Paso light middleweight Abie Han lost nearly 20 pounds in the last month and a half, and it showed against fellow undefeated light middleweight, Glen Tapia of New Jersey, in an 8th round TKO loss. Han falls to 19-1, while Tapia improves to 19-0.
Han usually fights at middleweight (160 Lbs) and is a sparring partner of former WBA middleweight champion, Austin Trout, and Han trains with Las Cruces trainer Louie Burke, but Han could not overcome Tapia's quickness out of the gate.
Tapia overpowered Han in the first round with a barrage of rights and lefts, and Han had no answer. Despite a solid second round, Han and Tapia head butted each other unintentionally in the fourth round, leading to a bloody cut on Han's head. The medical staff allowed the bout to continue, though you could tell Tapia was too physical for Han. Tapia overpowered Han in the seventh round, knocking Han to the ropes with 30 seconds left in the round, the referee called it a knockdown. It's the first time Han had been knocked down in his 20 porfessional fights.
After the 8th, the referee called the fight after consulting the medical staff due to Han's cut. Tapia won a Technical Knockout.
