Galindo talks about Wrestling State Championship

Sports
Monday, February 27, 2012 - 7:43pm

Yvonne Galindo never thought this was possible.  Just last year, as a sophomore at Jefferson High School, Yvonne and her coach, Daniel Alarcon, changed strategies.  They moved from 148 pounds to 138, where they hoped Yvonne would be more competitive.  Not only was she competitive, this past weekend, Yvonne won the UIL State Championship at 138 pounds, the first girls wrestling state champion in the history of Jefferson High School.

"It's a priveledge and makes me feel inspirational, helps me as a better person, and makes me confident to help motivate others to help push and work hard as I could," said Galindo.  Her coach, Daniel Alarcon, was surprised at the love from the community.  "Everyone is so proud of her, I have had so many calls from people around the community, teachers and administrators, of how proud they are of her, and how proud they are of us in achieving this goal."
