Freshman leads UTEP Women's Golf on day one of C-USA Championship

Freshman Maria Velasco shot a four-over-par 76 to lead the UTEP women's golf team over the first 18 holes of the Conference USA Championship on Monday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Velasco is tied for 20th place. The Miners are in ninth place out of 11 teams with a score of 310.
UTEP's Emma Burman is tied for 23rd place (77), Amber Herrera is tied for 32nd place (78), Camino Sardinero is tied for 35th place (79) and Nathalie Castillo is tied for 46th place (83).
The tournament continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with 18 holes each day.
