Frazier Has Career Day as UTEP Downs Colorado State, 31-17 on Homecoming
Vernon Frazier ran for a career high 167 yards on 7 carries, UTEP ran for 340 yards as a team, and won on Homecoming, 31-17, their first victory over their former WAC rivals, the Rams, in 23 years. UTEP took a 14-0 lead thanks to TD's from Nathan Jeffrey adn Frazier, then Nick Lamaison added a 33 yard td run in the 4th quarter to clinch it. UTEP improves to 3-3, 2-2 in C-USA, and will host Southern Miss next Saturday, 6:00pm in the Sun Bowl.

A shortage in a circuit was identified as the cause for the halftime power outage.
UTEP’s first points came at the 13:41 mark of the first quarter, making it the quickest score of the Mike Price era. The last time the Miners had a quicker score was on Sept. 6, 2003 versus Cal Poly, when Omar Cruz threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Gonzales with 14:16 remaining in the opening period.
Vernon Frazier has scored a touchdown in back-to-back games for the first time in his Miner career.
The 83-yard touchdown run by Vernon Frazier in the third quarter is tied for the fifth-longest rushing play in school history and is the longest rush by a Miner player since Willie Fuller versus Utah in 1988 (90 yards).
Vernon Frazier went over 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career and finished with seven carries for 167 yards. Frazier’s previous high rushing total was 89 yards versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 4, 2010.
Vernon Frazier led UTEP in rushing for the second time in his career. The first time was against UCF on Sept. 27, 2008 (73 yards).The interception by Adrian James in the second quarter was the first of his UTEP career.
The 33-yard touchdown run by Nick Lamaison in the fourth quarter was the longest by a Miner quarterback since James Thomas II had a 44-yard run versus NM State on Sept. 20, 2008.
The 137 first half yards for Colorado State marked the fewest by a Miner opponent in the first two periods since New Mexico had 104 at the midway point on Oct. 2, 2010.Colorado State’s 255 yards were a season-low by a UTEP opponent and the fewest since New Mexico had 237 on Oct. 2, 2010.
The Miners rushed for 340 yards, their most in a game since tallying 346 versus Valdosta State on Sept. 16, 1995. The last time UTEP had more rushing yards against a Division I opponent was on Aug. 31, 1991 versus New Mexico (349).
UTEP improves to 37-42-1 all-time in Homecoming games with four straight wins. The Miners are 6-2 on Homecoming under coach Mike Price. UTEP is 3-4 all-time when Colorado State has served as its Homecoming opponent.
The Miners finish 3-1 in non-conference games. UTEP has posted three non-conference wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1956-57 (does not take into account the 1962-67 seasons when UTEP was not affiliated with a conference). UTEP ends an eight-game losing streak at the hands of Colorado State. It marks the Miners’ first victory over the Rams since Oct. 15, 1988.
The Miners are now 6-4 against Mountain West Conference schools since the league’s inception for the 1999 season. UTEP is 4-1 versus MWC foes in the Sun Bowl.
The Miners have won 10 of their last 13 games in the Sun Bowl.
