Franklin Soccer On A Roll

Sports

POSTED: Monday, January 24, 2011 - 7:43pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, January 25, 2011 - 11:05am

The Franklin soccer team is coming off a tournament championship with higher team goals in mind. Franklin won the Corpus Christi Tournament this past weekend, and is off to a 7-1 start early in the 2011 season. The Cougars feature a team with 7 Seniors, and finishing 2nd in District 1-5A last season has helped fuel this team. Another inspiring factor is how the team has come together, even with an assortment of Sophomore and Juniors.

Senior Defender Katie Hemmert said, "With so many seniors this year, we have a lot of experience. We have really grown to love each other, a lot of the girls will say that we are a family, and I think that makes us so much stronger as a team." Senior Defender Paulina Gomez added, "It's a big family, we all hang out with each other on the weekends, we all have classes together. It's just a special bond that we all have." Senior Goalkeeper Julia Aguilar knows this team still has potential and room to grow. "We'll definitely grow a lot more throughout the season, the little ones are stepping up, with just everybody working together, we'll grow a lot."

7:30pm Tuesday, January 25, Franklin will host Hanks in District play.
