The UTEP Miners will need experience from their receiving corps, and though Donovan Kemp is the most experienced wide receiver returning, maybe the most reliable could be former Montwood Ram Julio Lopez. After transferring to UTEP from New Mexico St., Lopez has worked hard, even earning a scholarship before this season, his senior season, from Head Coach Mike Price.
"Yeah, Julio has been excellent the whole camp, he's on scholarship now, so that makes his parents feel a lot better that's for sure, and there is nobody else that earned it more than Julio Lopez", said Price.
Lopez added after practice in Socorro, "It's a great feeling, that's always a goal, when you start high school football is to get a scholarship, and when you earn it, after coming to college as a walk on, and working your way on, it just feels that more great, so yeah, I am thrilled. To be able to continue the Miner tradition, in front of my family, friends and hometown, it's a dream come true for me."
