With the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on the horizon, the U.S. Men's National Team will play its only tune-up match before the event when it hosts Guatemala on July 5 in San Diego (TICKETS). Kickoff at Qualcomm Stadium is set for 8 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network. (Watch at Official U.S. Soccer Bars) Fans can follow the match live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and via Twitter @ussoccer.   Former Mayfield Trojan Edgar Castillo has been named to the Gold Cup team for the United States.

U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has indicated that the starting group that faces Guatemala will be considered the favorites to be the first XI for the Gold Cup, giving fans in San Diego the first look at the group that will lead the charge for the USA's fifth confederation championship title.
The group began gathering on July 1 and will play the first match for the MNT in San Diego since 2006. The mix of veterans and younger players are hoping the Guatemala match and the Gold Cup will prove to be a launching point for a spot in World Cup Qualifying and ultimately Brazil in 2014. (From Gold Cup to World Cup?)

BEASLEY NAMED GOLD CUP CAPTAIN: Klinsmann has named three-time World Cup veteran DaMarcus Beasley as the U.S. captain for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Beasley has enjoyed a resurgence with the National Team after receiving his first call-up in seven months when he was added to the roster for the World Cup Qualifiers in March against Costa Rica and Mexico. "His leadership and experience will be very valuable in this tournament, and he can help connect some of the younger players to what we have been building," Klinsmann said.
