Former Americas Football Player Talks UTEP Football, Position Change
Sunday, August 1: Former Americas Football Player Geoff Amato, and UTEP Miner Senior-to-be, is preparing for his senior season like every other UTEP football player. One thing though, before his senior year, Amato was asked to change positions. That's tough for any football player before their final year, but Geoff has taken a liking to it. "I am excited. At the same time it was tough, but I have two seniors in front of me that are very good at tight end, and I think that my spot at defensive end will give me a better chance of playing more, and I think I can help the team a lot. I have set my goals very high this year, and I plan on playing a lot, making a lot tackles and big plays, and being a big part of this team."
Amato has worked out nearly three hours a day, every day in preparation for this week's start of preseason training camp. He's excited to take the field in front of friends and family for one last go around. "I mean it's great, I have played in El Paso for four years at Americas High School, and there are great fans out here. Transitioning to UTEP has been great, I have the community behind me, I have my family here, I have great support. The people of El Paso are great, so it's been great to be in El Paso still."
