40 years... that's how long it's been.  How long it's been since the USA Men's Olympic Basketball team decided not to attend the medal award ceremony for Men's Basketball, feeling they deserved Gold over their Silver after the 1972 Olympic Gold Medal game against the Soviet Union, after a botched time keeping for the clock, then the referee inexplicably gave the Soviet Union the ball back with a time out.  3 chances later, the Soviets scored in a 50-49 victory over the USA. Ever since, the 1972 team refused their Silver medals.

Thursday, Andress Boys Basketball Head Coach Jim Forbes, a former UTEP Miner and a member of that 1972 team, will reunite with his teammates in Georgetown, Kentucky, their first reunion since 1972.

"Well I am excited about it. Some of these guys, I have watched over the years in the NBA, and off and on, I have kept in touch with some, but this will be the first time since we left Munich that all 12 guys have been together. There is not going to be any acceptance of Silver medals, the team, after that game, strongly felt that we had won a gold medal, and after 40 years, it would be silly. We felt like we had won a Gold medal, and some guys even have it in their will that no one in their family is going to take a Silver medal, it's not going to happen."
