New UTEP Head Coach Tim Floyd comes from a long pedigree of coaches, thanks to his start with the legendary Don Haskins. Floyd started as an assistant coach under Haskins at UTEP in 1978, and ever since then, has taught the Haskins' Style Defense in college and the NBA. Tim Floyd said at his Tuesday press conference: "When you see us defensively, it will look a lot like Don Haskins teams, because I have not changed one thing from those days." Isaac Gordon said, "I am looking forward to it, but I know it's tough. Means a lot of hard work, conditioning, but we are looking forward to the challenge, I think it will help us out." Julyan Stone added, "No layups, no easy baskets type of team, and I am fine with that, actually, it had my amped up because I love defense."
