Final Day Of Junior Match Play Championships

Sports

POSTED: Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 8:43pm

UPDATED: Thursday, July 28, 2011 - 10:41pm

The Junior Match Play tournament concluded today with the championship rounds taking place at Coronado Country Club, earlier today.

The girls final was an all-Eastwood affair, as Trooper teammates Aires Ramirez and Amber Herrera squared off. Ramirez and Herrara made the finals one to remember, as both played well taking the match to playoff holes. On the 21st hole Herrera was able to par the hole and defeat her Trooper teammate 1 up in the playoff. Herrera talked about the back and forth final and the opportunity for her and her teammate to represent Eastwood.

"We both played really well. Up to both of our expectations. I would win a hole and then lose a hole. Then she'd win a hold and then she'd lose a hole. It was really back and forth the whole time. I think we represented Eastwood really well. Our top 3 finished first, second, and third."

In the boys final Coronado freshman-to-be Evan Macias defeated Taylor Stovall 1 up on 18 to take the boys Match Play championship.
