Fight Card Set

Opponents for El Paso’s Antonio Escalante and Mickey Roman, of Juarez, have been announced for Independence Showdown, Thursday, September 15th at the El Paso County Coliseum. The seven-bout fight card will feature 2-time world champion, Jhonny Gonzalez (49-7, Mexico City) defending his WBC World Featherweight Championship against Rogers Mtagwa (27-14-2, Philadelphia).
The former #1 World Contender, Escalante (24-4, El Paso, TX), will take on Mexico’s Pipino Cuavas, Jr. (14-7, Mexico City) in a ten-round Lightweight co-Semi Main Event bout. Roman, the current Mexican Super Featherweight Champion, is slated to take on Antonio Meza (17-10-1, Mexicali) in the other co-Semi Main Event.
Added to the card are 2008 U.S. Olympian, Javier Molina (8-0, Norwalk, CA), female prospect Jennifer Han (3-1, El Paso) and undefeated El Paso prospects Carlos Villa and Joel Garcia, both 2-0).
The event is being promoted by Goosen-Tudor Promotions , in association with Promociones Del Pueblo of El Paso. It will be broadcast in Mexico on Televisa and in the domestic U.S. on ESPN Deportes. The first fight begins at 7:30 pm
