Fear the Falcons: Eastlake aiming for State

EL PASO, TEXAS (KTSM) - The Eastlake High School baseball team is in a position no other team in program history has been. The Falcons are prepping for their first ever UIL Regional Quarterfinals game against Lubbock Cooper. This best-of-three series will be played in Roswell, New Mexico.

Eastlake is 32-6 this season and went a perfect 16-0 in District 2-5A play this season. The secret to their success has been to remain hungry.

"It's a great position to be where we are at, but the kids know they are playing for a lot," said head coach Marc Herrera. "They are not satisfied with just winning the area round, they want to go all the way to Austin."

Lubbock Cooper is 26-10 this season and outscored the Bowie Bears 27-4 in a series sweep in the area round.

"I know they have good pitching. They have a lot of good pitchers," said senior infielder Raymundo Enriquez. "To beat them, we have to have good approaches at the plate and play solid defense. The pitchers on our mound will give us a good chance to win."

Game one is Friday night at 7 PM MT from New Mexico Military Institute.
