Wednesday, July 21:  Featherweight Antonio Escalante is 23-2 with 13 knockouts, and will take on Edel Ruiz, Friday, August 6 at the Haskins Center.  Escalante is #2 ranked featherweight in the world.  "Edel Ruiz, we know he is an experienced fighter, but I am 100%, my elbow is 100%, my coach is 100%, everything is 100% so we should be ready to go."  Escalante added local trainer Louie Burke to his corner.  Burke, a former Lightweight fighter himself, was 19-3 as a pro boxer, defeating current trainer Freddie Roach, and lost to 3-time world champion Hector "Macho" Camacho.  "I feel good right now, and I think we are ready for this opponent. I think we are ready for August 6th, we'll be ready."  Workouts have been tough so far.  Escalante said, "As of right now, still, this is a hard workout for me. I still have a lot to do, still sprints, sparring, I do a lot of sparring."  Louie Burke added, "We were working on a lot of basic mechanics, fundamentals, and get strong there, kind of shoring up his defense somewhat. Trying to get him to work off the jab a little bit more, everything is coming into place."

Contender vs. Champion is set for Friday, August 6 at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. The event will be broadcast live on TeleFutura's Solo Boxeo Tecate beginning at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT.
