Sports

UPDATED: Saturday, August 7, 2010 - 5:55pm

Friday, August 6:  El Paso's Antonio Escalante defeated Los Mochis, Mexico's Edel Ruiz by third round knockout tonight in the Haskins Center.  Escalante, the #2 ranked WBA and WBC Featherweight contender, improves to 24-2, with 15 knockouts.  Escalante came in hard in the third round, hit Ruiz hard in the body, causing Ruiz to fall to the floor.  Ruiz put his head on the mat, then stood up and his corner called the fight.

Tony was fit, muscular, confident, and easily controlled the fight. He is seemingly an improved boxer under the tutelage of Louie Burke.Ruiz did seem docile and evidently did not have his fighting heart in the bout. The last 20 seconds of the 3rd round is indicative of his lack of competitive will. Check it out.
Too many wars? Too much Tony?

From the boxing website: badlefthook.com
Something of this fashion:
Antonio Escalante TKO'd Edel Ruiz in the 3rd. As you would expect with this fight, Escalante stomped and got rid of Ruiz in short order........However, by beating Ruiz (34-23-4, 25 KO) really does nothing at all for Escalante (24-2, 15 KO).
BLH goes on to say that Tony still might be a good draw with promoters for a world title shot. Nevertheless, BLH is of the opinion that Tony's power is insufficient for the top boxers.
