Escalante speaks of recent arrest, boxing
El Paso, TX — Boxer Antonio Escalante was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of DWI after an El Paso Police Officer observed 'defective vehicle equipment' on the vehicle that Escalante was driving. This is the third arrest of this kind for Escalante in the past six months.
Today, he spoke of his upcoming August 15th right with undefeated Jose Pedraza, and it will remain televised on ESPN's Friday Night Fights.
"I do not have a drinking problem," said Escalante. "The alcohol, any of that, that's not me, and I just want to apologize for any of the people that believe in me or got upset. I am really sorry, but I will tell you all that I will get back up on my feet."
In February, Escalante was arrested on suspicion of DWI in Northeast El Paso when EPPD officers were dispatched to a convenience store where they located Escalante sleeping inside of a vehicle. At that time, NewsChannel 9 obtained exclusive cell phone video footage of the arrest.
FEBRUARY ESCALANTE ARREST
Escalante's latest arrest occurred on Saturday, July 13 at 4:07 p.m. in the 800 block of N. Piedras in Central El Paso. An EPPD officer stopped Escalante's vehicle and had him take a field sobriety test, which he allegedly failed.
Escalante later provided a breath sample of .21, and he was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on Driving while Intoxicated with a BAC >.15. His bond was set at $500.
According to court records, Escalante was also arrested June 2, 2014 for suspicion of DWI with a child under the age of 15. Escalante has not appeared in court for any of the previous arrests.
